Dennis Riordan

Dennis Riordan, one of the most important criminal defense attorneys in California, has died of cancer. Riordan was a brilliant appellate attorney who inspired many of us over the years with his dedication to the law and to justice for those who are accused.

He received almost every accolade that could be bestowed and commanded the respect of every court where he appeared.  Yet, what mattered the most was what he could do on behalf of his clients.

In 1982, he worked with Carl Shapiro to defend Mark Richards, handling many of the motions and legal arguments in both the trial court and the pretrial issues taken to the court of appeal. His work was exemplary.  

Riordan will be missed by all who support the right to a criminal defense.
